Gastronomic Trekking on the Amalfi Coast

If you’ve been following along the past few posts you’ve gathered that this adventure has been phenomenal so far. We’ve fallen in love with the Amalfi Coast just as we do every other part of Italy! On this trip we’ve already enjoyed a night of pizza in Naples, explored the Roman ruins of Pompeii, climbed to the crater of Mount Vesuvius, and have hiked the Path of the Gods. In summary, this area of Italy is absolutely amazing and full of incredible experiences.

We now move on to an equally as memorable day and experience Gastronomic Trekking with Giacomo! Our friends, the Willoughbys, raved about this experience and even came home and treated us to an Amalfi-inspired dinner using techniques and recipes they learned with Giacomo! They said it was not to be missed and they were right. This was unique and oh so much fun!

The Details

Our trek began at the meeting point in Praiano, a beautiful little village between Positano and Amalfi. This was just a quick bus ride from the center of Positano. We were joined by new friends from Sweden and the United States, which made it even more fun! The experience is just 90€ per person and worth every cent.

Along the walk, Giacomo educated the group on the ability to source fresh vegetation in the area while we foraged for the upcoming meal. I never would have thought certain plants were edible, but I was entirely wrong! We separated hearty leaves from soft new growth as well a bag for small edible flowers, one for wild arugula, and one for lemon leaves.

We eventually made our way up to an incredible rooftop terrace and kitchen where we prepared a made from scratch pesto, roasted mozzarella on fresh-picked lemon leaves, salad, quiche with handmade crust, fried tempura sage leaves, hand-rolled cavatelli, and a fried ricotta dessert. Giacomo paired all of this with three different wines from the area, and it was legitimately one of the best meals we ate!

There are additional locations available which we look forward to sampling soon! If you are booking your trip to the Amalfi Coast, you can’t miss this experience!
