Well, we did the best we could! The escape to Portugal helped, but we need the sun! After just over four months of working the graveyard shift, we figured out how to chase the sunshine and live a somewhat normal life. Normal life? Perhaps not, but we are at least living a relatively regular day where the sun rises just before we wake up, and we end our day hours after sunset. This opportunity landed us in Guam, a territory where we could legally enter as US citizens, receive COVID-19 vaccinations promptly, and renew my passport!

Japan's borders are still closed for entry to anyone other than passport holders or Olympians. We clearly couldn't find a sport under which either of us could come close to qualifying. They also didn't seem interested in pro bono Olympic photography, so we've done the next best thing by moving temporarily to Guam! The amusing bit was that our flight from Zürich to Guam connected in Tokyo, less than an hour's journey to our apartment.

We've never been in a position where we considered Guam as a destination, so I wanted to be sure to do it right the first time! From the moment I searched for lodging options on Google and Airbnb, all arrows pointed to Tsubaki Tower. Tsubaki Tower features a large infinity pool, a poolside bar and restaurant, several little cafes and bars in its interior, a large restaurant on its main floor, a top-floor bar, and a top-floor restaurant. One key component was solid and reliable wifi, something we strangely found difficult to find in Guam's lodging. Chanel can’t have bad connection on virtual meetings… so, we’re going to do this right and go with the best!

After our government-mandated 7-day stay in the quarantine hotel, we made our way to Tsubaki Tower! This beautiful hotel is nearly new and resides in Tamuning Bay. It’s is the perfect place to call home for the next several weeks. Luckily, we've also managed to rent a vehicle for a short term, and there are plenty of restaurants around to keep a nice variety!

As always, we highly value excellent customer service. There's no shortage of excellent service from the friendly and oft-smiling faces at Tsubaki. Even with masks, the happy vibe radiates through. We, of course, have become somewhat regulars at NuNu bar, where AJ and Michael make the poolside bar experience that much more special!

One thing is for sure, anytime we are in Guam, you'll find us at Tsubaki Tower!
